Lookin' Out My Back Door...

...and I happened to notice something odd. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. What's with advanced hyper-technology always failing in the face of ambient radiation on a planet's surface? You'd think more advanced races would have found a way around this small problem. I mean, what's a little gamma-ray interference when stars die constantly? Look, all I'm saying is, when you're attempting to take resources from another world, you need proper, up to date equipment and planning. You can't afford to cut corners. Also, unless your homeworld happens to be under a totalitarian regime, you can't legitimately hold back the galactic press from reporting their findings. That's just absurd.
